about

In spring 2009 Clayton Thomas invited Ignaz Schick over to his house in Neukölln for an early afternoon coffee and an acoustic session which came about out of curiosity after Ignaz had excitedly told Clayton about an old 1920ies Conn alto sax he had borrowed from a befriended colleague. Both had collaborated in several electro-acoustic situations but never in a pure acoustic/jazz setting. The session from the first second was mesmerizing, pure melodic joy, harmolodic counterpoint and deep fresh free flow. It was clear on the spot, a new trio needed to be founded. But who could be the right fit for the drum seat? After several suggestions from Clayton (all swiftly declined by Ignaz) he came up with the perfect idea: Paul Lovens. The rest is history. No more words needed, listen for yourself to this hard swinging party of joy! This is the first of two legendary live concerts which took place in 2010 and it also marks the first acoustic saxophone release of Ignaz Schick in the ZORA series. We decided to present you the entire concert also including the audience reactions and musician comments between the tracks for you to experience in an authentic way the atmosphere of this truly special concert.
